The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1992 and later promoted to Medical University Complex in 1994. Educational departments of the school are basically classified into two groups of basic and clinical sciences as follows:

Golestan at a glance

Golestan Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran, located in the north-east of the country south of the Caspian Sea.  Golestan Province`s capital is Gorgan. Gorgan has a mediterranean climate . In general, Golestan has a moderate and humid climate known as "the moderate Caspian climate." As a result of the above factors, three different climates exist in the region: plain moderate, mountainous, and semi-arid. Gorgan valley has a semi-arid climate. More than 20 tribes (Persian، Turkish  ،kurdish . turkmen .baluch . sistani ….) live in golestan province.while as varied tribes. Languages and religins ، the inhabitants of golestan province live in peace and quiet. The people of Golestan province are very kind and hospitable and warmly welcome the guests of their city and province.

We decided to: Reach the top position in the education of educated and progressive human capital, development of research and new technologies in medical sciences, provision of standard health services and creation of knowledge-based wealth until 1404 in the country.

Message of chancellor

Dear Students, Researchers, Members of the Faculty, and Scholars. Welcome to Golestan University of Medical Sciences (GoUMS). Medical Education in Iran has deep roots in human history. With historical and urban settlements dating back to 4,000 B.C., ancient Persians and contemporary Iranians always felt the need for up-to-date and relatively advanced medical support for the general population. Thus, this country has always been a welcome home for, and host to, medical researchers and scientists. Avicenna (aka Ibn Sina or Pur Sina), whose works on medicine were used as standard medical content at many medieval universities in Europe, and Rhazes (aka Zakariya Razi), who greatly contributed to the universal field of medical sciences through his unique discoveries, are two of the most outstanding figures among a multitude of great physicians and medical scholars of the country during past centuries. Golestan University of Medical Sciences has been training since 1967 This university has been successful, due to the presence of experienced professors who have achieved a great deal of respect in science related fields. Appropriate training, equipment, and facilities, as well as low costs, grant significant advantage over other universities across the world. In addition, due to the availability of modern facilities, this university is a good host for patients who have been diagnosed with hypertension, including open heart surgery, eye surgery and burns. The entire world chooses Iran for treatment. I look forward to welcoming you to our university and wish you success in all your academic endeavors.

Research

Vice-chancellor of Research and Technology of Golestan University of Medical Sciences(GOUMS), in three sets of research management, medical information management, and scientific resources and health technology administration, with the mission of developing research infrastructure and supporting the production of science and technology, has a significant role in achieving general policies of the health system. Opportunities available in this department for domestic and international researchers are 19 research centers, two clinical research development units, 5 scientific research journals indexed in international databases, a comprehensive laboratory, and so on. Also, one of the most important capabilities of the GOUMS is the largest cohort project in the Middle East (Golestan cohort) which is being implemented with the participation of international scientists and so far dozens of research projects and authoritative research articles are the results of its research.

    About the Journal The Journal of Gorgan University of Medical Sciences is a peer-reviewed, open access and quarterly scientific journal that publishes quality papers on medical sciences in Persian full text and English abstract. This journal has started publishing card copy volumes since spring 1999 (P-ISSN 1562-4765) and electronic format (e-ISSN 2008-4080) since spring 2008. Aim and Scope According to the policy of Journal of Gorgan University of Medical Sciences, we are now considering manuscripts within the following subjects: clinical medicine, basic medical research, nursing, midwifery, dentistry, epidemiology, molecular medicine, nutrition, sport medicine and health system. The journal offers a venue for researchers and scientists to publish their innovative and constructive research works.

  • Research Development in Nursing and Midwifery

    Journal of Research Development in Nursing and Midwifery is a scholarly, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes articles on current nursing and health related issues. It encourages theoretical, practical and methodological debates on a wide range of scientific topics in nursing and midwifery. In the evolving field of healthcare, the journal provides a free access to latest information on nursing education, training and practice.
